Cockington's History

The story of Cockington Country Park stretches back over 1,000 years. First recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, it began as a small agricultural settlement within the manor of Torre. Over the centuries, the village evolved under the stewardship of families like the Carys and the Mallocks, who left their mark on its landscape and architecture.

The 19th century saw Cockington become a popular destination for Victorian tourists, drawn by its unspoiled beauty and timeless charm. The Mallock family played a significant role in preserving the estate’s unique character, ensuring it remained a peaceful retreat amidst Torbay’s growing popularity.

Today, Cockington blends its rich history with a vibrant present, offering visitors a chance to step back in time while enjoying modern-day experiences.

Our Story

For us at Torbay Gin, Cockington isn’t just a location—it’s our home and inspiration. We began our journey in the Sea Change Units at Cockington Court, surrounded by a community of talented artisans. As our business grew, so did our vision, and in 2023, we moved to the Stable Yard Studios, a space that allows us to craft our gins while staying rooted in the village’s creative and sustainable ethos.

Our gins are inspired by the beauty of the South Devon coastline, with our signature blue gin changing colour to reflect the hues of Torbay’s sunsets. We’re proud to be part of Cockington’s artisan community, working alongside other local makers to celebrate the heritage and creativity of this unique place.
